Launching New Promotion Strategy | Print |

Ahh the wonders of the internet!

It's a big decision to launch a brand new record label these days. The idea 10 years ago was simple:

Find a new talented artist and convince them to sign with you, then front up enough capital to secure them a great remix artist

and manufacture the product.

These days it is a hard for a small independent label to work in the traditional sense. They have to keep a tight lid on their releases, especially when trying to promote their up and coming releases. Once a track is ready for release its good practice to send it out to well known DJ's,  and these day a label  has carefully plan which DJ's they can send their promo copies to and which friends they can trust not to spread their pending release.

Why?

Because uploading and downloading songs is just way too easy. Why would I want to go all the way to beatport.com, or iTunes or god, even the CD store when I can just get only thepiratebay.org? And, your just one person right? One person won't really effect how a songs sells, and besides those artists and labels are rich anyway!

The things is, we have all been guilty at downloading a track at least once. You heard a great track that your favourite DJ played last night, and it hasn't been released yet and you have JUST GOT TO HEAR IT AGAIN! Sound familiar?

What labels don't realise is that fans are downloading these songs because they like really like them, not to hurt them.

It is because of this conclusion that I have decided to trial a new way to promote our artists that uses fans and downloads as assets to the label. If this campaign works, then I will do it more and more!

Here's the idea. D4Dirty Records is going to release every D4Dirty track (The D4Dirty Artist tracks, not our entire catalogue) for free. Absolutely free. This includes the D4Dirty remixes of our just released tracks.

You will find our little present to you all at your favourite torrent download place, and also in our release section. If you like the tracks all we ask for is your email so we can email you with our up and coming releases and our new free downloads.

In order to support out artists who own the copyright, we are going to put up some advertisements around the downloads (all tasteful and un-obtrusive).  We will try our absolute best to ensure the products advertised are going to be useful to you, and things that you will be interested in.

I hope you will support this initial trial. This could be the start of a completely new way of distributing music and support the artists we all love.
